My Model, Volume 2, Jesus Christ - The Perfect Model
Have you ever wondered why Jesus didn't follow His parents home immediately after the feast of Passover at the temple when He was just twelve years old? Have you also asked yourself why and how He survived for three days away from His family? Did you also ask yourself why He wasn't even scared that He might have lost His family? Did you ever ponder and wonder what a child would be discussing with Bible scholars that enticed them all, keeping them captivated?
Looking at Luke 2:41-51, I believe Jesus knew from a tender age that He was set apart for a great purpose, a purpose that would change the world forever. He knew He had to be prepared in the knowledge of God's word.
Luke 2:52 ICB:
Jesus continued to learn more and more and to grow physically. People liked Him, and He pleased God.
Let's dig deeper and discover how Jesus prepared for His purpose even from a tender age.
Study
Ever wondered what a twelve-year-old knew from the scriptures that he was able to share his revelations and ideas with Bible scholars captivatingly? This means he had begun reading God's word from a tender age. So, if we want to be like Jesus, we need to study our Bible as much as we can; I recommend doing it daily.
We might invent millions of reasons stopping us from studying, but it would interest you to know that Jesus had challenges, yet he studied anyway. One of the challenges I know Jesus faced was the unavailability of the Bible. Having even just a letter from the scriptures—not the whole Bible, just a letter—was a rare privilege. We now have unlimited access to God's word, so we can find time to study it daily and grow in wisdom according to Luke 2:52.
Prayer
Do you realize that Jesus knew he was the Messiah even at a tender age? See, he asked his mom;
Luke 2:49 ICB
Jesus asked, “Why did you have to look for me? You should have known that I must be where my Father’s work is!”
I believe Jesus knew whom He was by the revelation of the Holy Spirit during prayers. You will know the voice of the Holy Spirit when you spend quality time praying, just like Jesus did. It's a beautiful thing to have a friend who knows you more, loves you more, and talks to you too!
One of the reasons Jesus stayed back in the temple was because of the intimacy He had with God. The presence of the Lord is beautiful. This particular story of Jesus inspires us to become more intimate with God. I would also love to use this medium to encourage young ones to attend Christian camp meetings just as Jesus did.
Seeking Answers
Jesus didn't just answer the questions he was asked in verse 47; He also listened and asked questions in verse 46 of Luke chapter 2. I believe that as we grow, we tend to always have questions to ask about life. I encourage you to channel those questions to your spiritual leaders, like your Sunday school teachers, pastors, and parents too. When you do this, you You gain more wisdom. If they don't give you exactly what your heart seeks, then ask the Holy Spirit; He will give you the best answer.
John 14:26 ICB
But the Helper will teach you everything. He will cause you to remember all the things I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.
The Writer's Note
Jesus is our perfect model; He always knows what to do and where to go. I pray that the Holy Spirit will give you direction on a daily basis and align you to your path. Grow in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and men.
Affirmation
Jesus, I want to be like You; make me like You. Help me to know You more each day I live. Help me to love You.
